Refuge for abused children

Children as sex slaves – if such a case becomes known in Europe, it triggers a wave of outrage. Unfortunately, in many developing countries and emerging economies it is practically an everyday occurrence that children are kidnapped or sold and forced into prostitution. In Mumbai alone, thousands of children vegetate in illegal brothels and suffer physical and psychological torture. Either this results in an early death or it affects them all their lives.

Support from the Peter Ustinov Foundation
At the initiative of retired policeman Heinz Reiter and the late Balkrishna Acharya, a centre to protect child prostitutes was established 85 kilometres north of Mumbai. The Peter Ustinov Foundation supported its construction with a grant totalling 300,000 euros. The building work is complete. Forty-five girls live here and are looked after. They receive school education and, depending on how old they are, they learn a craft in a workshop attached to the centre. In this way, girls make a break with their past and are able to find a way to live independently in the future.

The Peter Ustinov Foundation becomes involved in this and further projects to benefit children in need and their families. Please join us in our humanitarian project and give children a future with hope.
