When Sir Peter died in 2004, many people around the world mourned him. No matter where, all over the globe the cosmopolitan was regarded as "one of us" whose death spread grief. On March 29, 2004, the day of his death, Sir Peter's Institute for Prejudice Research at the Vienna University was inaugurated.
In spite of the sad occasion it would not have been Sir Peter's wish to postpone this opening. The research of prejudices had been one of his biggest concerns for years and, for us, is his legacy.
Before the research work started, the director of the institute, Dr. Friedrich Gehart, and the first visiting professor, the psychoanalyst Prof. Dr. Horst-Eberhard Richter, honoured the intellectual father of this chair in their speeches. - UNICEF
