04.12.09: Programme information "Tränen, die du lachst..." (Laugh until you cry...)

“Tränen, die du lachst…” is a film made by Miriam Pucitta and Michael Chauvistré, who accompanied Jupp Steinbusch and his children’s circus this year.

Each summer the clown Juppino with his Pinocchio circus travels to perform for children in Aachen and Eastern Europe. The clown and director is Jupp Steinbusch, a child of the post-war years from the Aachen coalfields. He did not only manage to escape from the mines to become a social worker and probation officer: he also achieved his dream. Even when he was a child, he wanted to join the circus. Fifteen years ago he founded the Pinocchio children’s circus. He travelled around in his VW bus with a trailer full of costumes, props and a circus tent. Each time Jupp Steinbusch needs one or two young people to travel with him. Wherever Jupp goes – be it in the schools, kindergartens and parish halls of his local area of Aachen or in one of the villages of south-eastern Europe, which the world has forgotten – the circus children are always there.
The Peter Ustinov Foundation has supported the Pinocchio children’s circus since 2007 on its travels to Northern Ireland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Hungary, Romania and St. Petersburg.
