24.03.10: Programme information "Kinderhilfe Afghanistan opens orphanage"

On 1 March 2010 the charity Kinderhilfe Afghanistan, a long-term cooperation partner of the Peter Ustinov Foundation, opened an orphanage in Afghanistan. This will be a home for four hundred orphans from the five eastern provinces. “In the 1980s and 1990s it was precisely orphans who fell into the hands of the Islamic Pied Pipers from Al Quaida and were educated in the extremist Koran schools to become fanatical religious warriors – the Taliban. These children – the poorest of the poor – will not only have a caring home but they will also receive a thorough school education and vocational training,” was the promise given at the opening ceremony by Reinhard Erös to the guests and Afghan media. The team from the programme Weltspiegel were also at the opening ceremony. This report is scheduled to be broadcast on ARD at 7.20 p.m. on 28 March 2010.
