Africa is hungry - and no-one sees it
“Each year is a crisis year for the poorest people in the Sahel”, is emphasized by Mustapha Darbor, chief of the World Food Program (WFP) of the United Nations for West Africa. “However, this year’s crisis begins much earlier than in the last year”.
Already in July, Mauritania, Niger, and the war-threatened Sudan in East Africa have been facing food shortage. According to the WFP, some regions of Mauritania have already reached a malnutrition level almost reaching the internationally acknowledged state of emergency. In this year, the existing financial funds for food aid are not enough to help the people beyond the month of July. Hundreds of thousands of people in Mauritania are threatened by starvation.

Several mortar grenades thrown at a school in East Afghanistan on April 11, 2006, killed six school girls and wounded more than a dozen. Our project partner in Afghanistan, Dr. Erös, confirms that the affected school is not one of the schools the “Kinderhilfe Afghanistan” has built. When he selected the location for ‘his’ schools, he paid attention to them not being built near a military base to prevent them from being attacked accidentally...

10,000 earthquake victims are safe
It’s winter in Pakistan. Many victims of the earthquake on October 8 now live in tents, however, these cannot withstand the hard winter. In order to secure people from freezing to death, the former doctor of the German Federal Armed Forces and founder of the association “Kinderhilfe Afghanistan”, Dr. Reinhard Erös, is building huts from sheet plate to provide shelter from the cold.
