Poverty and Education

The right to education is every child's base right. However, as long as 1.2 billion people worldwide, of them half a billion children, are living in extreme poverty, this base right is not available to many of them.
Roundly two thirds of girls growing up in less-developed countries are not going to school. But without education, without knowing how to read and write, they do not have the chance to improve their social position. Often, these girls become victims of economic exploitation and abuse.
One fifth of the Brazilian population is living in a state of extreme poverty. For children raised in economically underdeveloped regions, education and apprenticeship of good quality are the only way to escape this dead-end street.

Ways to escape the vicious circle of poverty

Education for poor children in Brazil

Learning for a better future

Countless children in Brazilian villages live in a state of extreme poverty. Vital necessities are lacking. Most parents do not have
the money to send their children to school.
The Peter Ustinov Foundation and its partner, the Global Harmony Foundation, jointly cooperate to make it possible for children in the rural region Tersopolis-Friburgo to attend school. Furthermore, ways are being searched for to defeat their poverty forever.

A chance for the poorest

Every child deserves the chance to learn something in order to be able to escape misery on his own.
Four years ago, an aid project was founded in the region of Tersopolis-Friburgo to smooth this way for as many children as possible. Since then, even children from the poorest families can attend school.

This is how the Peter Ustinov Foundation helps

Hundreds of children have already learned reading, writing, figuring and much more. Currently, we make school attendance possible for 165 children. The boys and girls get all necessary prerequisites they need to get a job later with which they can earn their and their family’s living. In addition to their mental furtherance, the school also cares for their physical development. Each child receives a meal and is medically attended. The offer is intended to be expanded for future generations.

The Peter Ustinov Foundation supports this and other projects contributing to the well-being of destitute children and their families. Please help us to realise our humanitarian efforts and aims, and give those children a hopeful future.
