Women in Afghanistan
For 20 years, war, fear and terror have been reigning in this country at the Hindu Kush. This did not change at all as the radical Islamic Taliban seized power in the largest part of Afghanistan. On the contrary, especially women and children suffered under this regime. Neither studying nor working was allowed to them.
The impact of this year-long social regression is enormous: Only every tenth women can write and read. Through building a peace school the Peter Ustinov Foundation contributes to women regaining an important role in Afghanistan.

A school for peace
Building support in Afghanistan
20 years of war – finally, girls are allowed to learn
After many years dominated by war, peace resettles in Afghanistan again. But the country is devastated. It is reliant on help and normality can only return when a working infrastructure has been established.
Peter Ustinov Peace School
The Peter Ustinov Foundation actively supports rebuilding.
A special focus is that girls also attend school in Afghanistan.
On Dec 31, 2003, the Peter Ustinov Peace School in the province
of Paghman (50 km north of Kabul) was completed.
On March 15, 2004, school began for 600 girls and 300 boys.
This is how the Peter Ustinov Foundation helps
The school named after Peter Ustinov was built by means of his Foundation and is one of 15 schools the military surgeon Dr. Reinhard Erös from Regensburg, Germany, his wife, and the German Aid for Afghan Children have built there since 1988.
The Foundation provided the funds for a jeep to transport vital freight. Since 2004, the Peter Ustinov Foundation has been financing the staff and operating expenses of this peace school in Afghanistan.
The Peter Ustinov Foundation supports this and other projects contributing to the well-being of destitute children and their families. Please help us to realise our humanitarian efforts and aims, and give those children a hopeful future.
