Aims of the Foundation

In Sir Peter’s spirit

Help for Children

One aim of the Peter Ustinov Foundation is to help people who cannot help themselves. Our aim is to pursue Sir Peter Ustinov's humanitarian heritage
and commitment in the guideline of the foundation.
Medical care for the poorest is one of our biggest concerns. For example: Cleft children in India, AIDS orphans in Russia, Noma victims in Niger.

Education for the poorest as a means for help to
self-help forms a second, important pillar. For example: Construction, furnishing and operation
of schools in Afghanistan and Brazil. With this we want to create conditions which facilitate an optimistic life free from physical, social, intellectual and mental limitations for children and adoles-
cents worldwide. The Peter Ustinov Foundation found project partners operating internationally and helps them to realise the aims which correspond to Sir Peter's humanitarian commitment.

Fighting prejudice

The Foundation supports its aid projects "regardless of origin, ancestry or belief". In Sir Peter's opinion, "prejudices" are misinterpretations with grave consequences. They exist in people's
minds and cannot be explained on a rational basis. With regard to this, the Foundation also
wants to explore ways to combat "the biggest villain on the cast list of mankind", as Sir Peter
once jokingly called the prejudice.

“Against the poison of prejudice – for openness and tolerance”. Event of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation with Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and Sandra Maischberger (May 30, 2002, in Berlin).

“Prejudices are the starting point of many accumulating disasters in this world. At first as inocuous as land mines, to which they bear a certain resemblance when inactive, they become lethal when children toy with them. Every human needs opinions to express. But they must be fresh, freely expressed, considered. Beware stale opinions, dead opinions, inherited opinions, thoughtlessly adopt. When they turn into contagion, they can humiliate entire nations. Death is there to survive. Humiliation can last for centuries. Palestine is a flagrant example.” (Sir Peter Ustinov)
